TONIGHT, WEDNESDAY, MAY 12, 7:00 p.m.  A big night for us as Henry Winkler visits–not in his Fonzi role, but as the author of the wildly popular Hank Zipzer series.  The new book, #17, is A BRAND NEW ME, and is available in paper and hardback.  Signing line tickets with the purchase of any of his books.

THURSDAY, MAY 13, 7:30 p.m.  Stephen Prothero, author of the best-selling RELIGIOUS LITERACY, will discuss his new book, GOD IS NOT ONE: THE EIGHT RIVAL RELIGIONS THAT RUN THE WORLD–AND THAT THEIR DIFFERENCES MATTER.  He suggests that these differences are far greater than we have acknowledged–and that we ignore this at our own peril.

FRIDAY, MAY 14, 7:30 p.m.  Mark Braverman with FATAL EMBRACE: CHRISTIANS, JEWS, AND THE SEARCH FOR PEACE IN THE HOLY LAND, about the author’s journey as an American Jew struggling with the difficult realities of modern Israel.  Our thanks to the Coalition for Peace with Justice for arranging this event.

SATURDAY, MAY 15, 10:00 a.m.  The Singles Book Club with MY NAME IF ASHER LEV by Chaim Potok.

SATURDAY, MAY 15, 3:00 p.m.  Ernie Ward, DVM, addresses a huge problem with his book, CHOW HOUNDS: WHY OUR DOGS ARE GETTING FATTER–A VET’S PLAN TO SAVE THEIR LIVES.  Dr. Ward, a regular guest on the Rachael Ray Show and featured on Animal Planet, teaches how to feed our dogs a nutritious diet even if they don’t need to lose weight.  This subject was featured on the Diane Rehm Show today.

SUNDAY, MAY 16, 2:00 p.m.  Elementary Book Club with WARRIORS by Joseph Bruchac;
at 3:00 p.m. the Series Book Club with MOTHSTORM from Philip Reeve’s Larklight Trilogy for ages 10 and up.

SUNDAY, MAY 16, 3:00 p.m.  Three poets:  Peter Blair with FARANG, and brothers James and Walter Melnyk with UKRAINE: SONGS OF A BELOVED LAND.

SUNDAY, MAY 16, 7:00 p.m.  Literary Pursuits Book Group discussing THE GATHERING by Anne Enright.

MONDAY, MAY 17, 7:00 p.m.  Understanding the Middle East Book Club with THE HAKAWATI by Almeddine (one of my staff picks).  Will meet this month at the Whole Foods Community Room.

MONDAY, MAY 17, 7:30 p.m.  Brunonia Barry, author of the acclaimed THE LACE READER, will discuss her new novel, THE MAP OF TRUE PLACES, about a psychotherapist who finds the strands of her own life in the death of a troubled patient.

TUESDAY, MAY 18, 7:00 p.m.  “The View from Tuesday Evening” presents Dan Gutman, author of THE TALENT SHOW, another humorous and action-packed adventure for ages 9 and up.  He will be followed by our traditional Summer Reading for Adults suggestions.  Everyone invited, children and adults.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 19, 7:30 p.m.  Elizabeth Berg returns with THE LAST TIME I SAW YOU, a novel about a woman who attends her first high school reunion.  Ms. Berg will read the winning entry of our “Reunion” essay contest, and, of course, discuss her new book.

THURSDAY, MAY 20, 3:00 p.m.  Encore II discussing AMERICAN LION by John Meacham..
