TONIGHT, WEDNESDAY, 7:30 p.m.  Vanessa Woods with her excellent memoir, BONOBO HANDSHAKE:  A MEMOIR OF LOVE AND ADVENTURE IN THE CONGO, a revealing, moving, story of science (a study of the relatively unknown Bonobo ape), history (Congo), and Woods’ relationship with her fiance (the reason she went to war-torn Congo).   They’re now researchers at Duke.  Vanessa recently discussed her book on the Diane Rehm Show.

Thursday, June 10, 7:30 p.m.  Welcome back to the delightful Claire Cook with SEVEN YEAR SWITCH.  She’s the author of seven bestsellers, including WILDWATER WALKING CLUB and MUST LOVE DOGS, which became a Warner Brothers movie starring Diane Lane and John Cusack.  Fans will love the heroine’s can-do spirit in the new one.

 
SUNDAY, JUNE 13, 3:00 p.m.  Linda Greenlaw is back on board!  She will discuss SEAWORTHY: A SWORDBOAT CAPTAIN RETURNS TO THE SEA, about her decision to return to the waves after ten years ashore.  She was featured in the book and film, THE PERFECT STORM.
 
MONDAY, JUNE 14, 7:30 p.m.  Speaking of THE PERFECT STORM, author Sebastian Junger will be here with his highly acclaimed WAR, about his harrowing experience in Afghanistan learning the reality of war.  Signing line tickets are available with the purchase of WAR.
 
TUESDAY, JUNE 16, 7:30 p.m.  Leonard Rogoff with DOWN HOME: JEWISH LIFE IN NORTH CAROLINA, a comprehensive social history from colonial times to the present, including historic and contemporary photographs.  Rogoff will be on the Tom Kearney Show tonight at 9:00 p.m. (WPTF, 680 AM).
 
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 16, 7:00 p.m.  Teen Writing Group open to everyone 14 years and older (meets in back room).
 
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 16, 7:30 p.m.  Patricia Marshall and Jo Leimenstoll with THOMAS DAY: MASTER CRAFTSMAN AND FREE MAN OF COLOR, a fascinating story of the most successful 19th-century cabinetmaker in North Carolina.  His surviving furniture and architectural woodwork still represent the best craftsmanship and aesthetics of the time.  The exhibit of Day’s furniture at the NC Museum of History is well worth the trip downtown. THURSDAY, JUNE 17, 3:00 p.m.  Encore II book group discussing OLD FILTH by Jane Gardam.

THURSDAY, JUNE 17, 7:30 p.m.  Christopher Hitchens will be interviewed by WUNC’s The State of Things host, Frank Stasio, about Hitchens’ memoir, HITCH-22.  The event will be held at the Unitarian Church, 3313 Wade Ave., Raleigh.  Signing line tickets available with the purchase of the book, but does not guarantee a seat. (First come, first seated.)  We suggest you car pool, if possible. 

SATURDAY, JUNE 19, 10:00 a.m.  The Singles Book Club with PRODIGAL SUMMER by Barbara Kingsolver.
