THURSDAY, SEPT. 9, 7:30 p.m.  Frank Deford, award-winning sports commentator on NPR, presents his novel, BLISS, REMEMBERED, set around the 1936 Olympics in Germany.

FRIDAY, SEPT. 10, 3:00 p.m.  Triangle Mommies hosts special story time with activities and book drive for Read Seed (a non-profit putting books in underprivileged kids’ hands.)  Bring in a book or get a 20% discount on books purchased for donation 9/5-9/11.

FRIDAY, SEPT. 10, 7:30 p.m.  Hal Herzog with SOME WE LOVE, SOME WE HATE, SOME WE EAT: WHY IT’S SO HARD TO THINK STRAIGHT ABOUT ANIMALS.  Anthrozoologist and Professor of Psychology at Western Carolina offers an unprecedented look inside our complex and often paradoxical relationships with animals.

SATURDAY, SEPT. 11, 10:00 a.m.  The Triangle Nutritarians will discuss HARVEST FOR HOPE by Jane Goodall.

SATURDAY, SEPT. 11, 3:00 p.m.  For Young Adults:  Terra Elan McVoy discussing AFTER THE KISS.  Camille and Becca have never met, but their lives will unravel and intertwine in surprising ways. For ages 14 & up.

SUNDAY, SEPT. 12, 2:00 p.m.  Lilit Marcus with SAVE THE ASSISTANTS: A GUIDE TO SURVIVING AND THRIVING IN THE WORKPLACE.  The millennial assistant manifesto with practical advice for making the best of that entry-level job. Lilit (pronounced Lil-eet) has Raleigh connections–she attended high school and college here.

MONDAY, SEPT. 13, 7:30 p.m.  Terry McMillan with GETTING TO HAPPY, an exuberant return to the four unforgettable heroines of WAITING TO EXHALE, full of spirit, sass, and faith in one another.  Signing line ticket with the purchase of GETTING TO HAPPY.

TUESDAY, SEPT. 14, 3:00 p.m.  Encore group discussing BEING CARIBOU by Karsten Hever.  Encore II meets Thursday, Sept. 16, 3:00 p.m., to discuss the same book.

NEW BOOK GROUP FORMING
We invite you to participate in a new book discussion group called Mostly Males (but open to everyone), which will meet the second Monday of each month. they will begin on December 13, 7:00 p.m.,  discussing MATTERHORN by Karl Marlantes.  (Marlantes will be in the store on November 17, 7:30 p.m.)  The January book is WAR by Sebastian Junger.  We’re not being chauvinistic with the group name, but want to be clear that the book selections will be slanted toward subjects of traditional masculine interest. (I liked MATTERHORN very much, so I’ll be at the first meeting.)  Let me know if you have any questions.

TROUBADOUR POET
Miquel Decor, an original poet who carries on the tradition of writing and performing in the Occitan (Oc) language of the troubadours, will be sharing his works at poetry readings in Raleigh, Chapel Hill and Pittsboro in October. The poet and his translator, Jeannette Rogers, will read in Occitan and English during a visit co-sponsored by Meredith College and the Center for European Studies at UNC-CH and are free and open to the public.
