PAWS: Foods you should NEVER give your dog

Many pet parents are guilty of treating our animals to some human foods, but did you know there are several items that you should NEVER give your furry friends?  Here is a listing of just some of the foods the book Doc Halligan’s What Every Pet Owner Should Know by veterinarian Karen Halligan, DVM, director of veterinary services for the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Los Angeles.

Avocados and their pits       Chives
Garlic                                Onions
Chocolate                          Macadamia Nuts
Peach pits                          Apricot pits
Apple Seeds                        Raisins and Grapes
Uncooked dough                 Xylitol (found in gum, sweets)

But there are a couple of items that are ok in moderation for your pets, these foods include:
Eggs (thoroghly cooked)
Meats (well done, boneless and skinless)
Vegetables (carrots and broccoli are full of soluble fiber)

If you suspect that your four-legged friend has consumed something that has mad them sick, contact your vet or the ASPCA’s poison control center at 1-888-426-4435.
